Mavericks Take Game One, 8-1

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. -- Metro State was held to just five hits as Mesa State defeated the Roadrunners, 8-1, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball game, Friday evening at Suplizio Field.

Five different players had one hit apiece for Metro State, while Josh Marner had the team's lone RBI. Chandler Herdt went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run for Mesa State.

The Mavericks scored three runs in the third then added five more in the fifth after Metro State cut it to a two-run deficit in the top of the inning.

With the win, Mesa State improves to 37-15 overall, 28-9 in the RMAC, while Metro State falls to 38-14, 30-7 in the RMAC. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
