Mesa State Sweeps Metro State, 17-12 and 4-1

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. -- Mesa State swept Metro State, 17-12 and 4-1, in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball action, Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field.

In the first game, Metro State hit seven home runs, but six were solo shots, and Mesa State rallied from a 10-0 deficit after two and a half innings. The Roadrunners scored nine runs in the third only to see Mesa State score seven in the third, seven in the fourth and three more in the sixth.

Every starter had at least one hit for Metro State. Matt McConnell went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two home runs and Reece Gorman also went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Mike Provencher was 4-for-5 with seven RBI for Mesa State.

In game two, Metro State led 1-0 but managed just two hits in the game and Mesa State scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and six innings to rally for the win. Reece Gorman went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

With the sweep, Mesa State improves to 39-15 overall, 30-9 in the RMAC, while Metro State falls to 38-16 overall, 30-9 in the RMAC. The two teams finish the series Sunday with the winner claiming the RMAC championship and the right to host the RMAC Tournament.
