New Mexico Highlands Downs Metro State, 11-3

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. -- No. 6-seed New Mexico Highlands pounded out 17 hits and defeated No. 2-seed Metro State, 11-3, at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball tournament, Thursday afternoon at Suplizio Field.

The Roadrunners got out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI double by Brennan Brown, but the Cowboys scored four unanswered runs to take a 4-1 advantage, then scored seven more runs over the last three innings for the final margin.

Brown was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Michael Molinar went 2-for-5 with two RBI for Metro State. Kyle Gerhart was 2-for-5 with four RBI for New Mexico Highlands.

Joel Lockhart took the loss for Metro State, giving up four runs in 5.1 innings.

With the win, New Mexico Highlands improves to 29-29, while Metro State falls to 38-19 overall. The loss ends Metro State's RMAC Tournament and ends the Roadrunners' season. Metro State's 38 wins is a school record.
