No. 13 Metro State Defeats CSU-Pueblo in First Game of Series

March 29, 2008

The No. 13 Metro State baseball team again relied on its offense to defeat CSU-Pueblo, 17-9, Friday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play.

Both teams came out swinging early, posting three runs apiece in the first inning. MSCD scored after CSU-Pueblo's starting pitcher walked the first two batter and then hit Reece Gorman. Jake Palmer followed with an RBI single to score one. After the Thunderwolves replaced their pitcher and earned two strikeouts, two more walks followed allowing the 'Runners to tie the score at 3-3.

Metro State added four more runs in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Marcel Dominguez. MSCD continued to add runs entering the eighth inning with a 12-7 lead. Matt McConnell started the inning with a double to right center. Michael Molinar reached on an error and Brennan Brown singled to center field to score two runs. The next three batters singled for the 'Runners to bring two more runs across. Dakota Nahm finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Steven Green improved to 8-0 on the season pitching six innings and striking out seven.

MSCD moved to 24-5 overall and 16-1 in the RMAC. The two teams play a doubleheader starting at Noon on Saturday.
