No. 10 Metro State Baseball Splits Games with Mines

April 12, 2008

The No. 10 Metro State baseball team went 1-1 against the Colorado School of Mines in a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) games, Saturday at Auraria Field. The Roadrunners claimed the first game, 9-1, and dropped the night cap 4-5.

Steven Green improved to 7-1 in the opening game of the day, pitching 7.1 innings and allowing just two hits and one run. Brennan Brown was the offensive hero of the game, going 4-for-4 with two RBI's. Freshman Taylor Zambard came of the bench to record a two-RBI single in the eighth inning to give the 'Runners the 9-1 victory.

The second game was back and forth as neither team held a lead of more than a run. The game was tied at 4-4 entering the top of the seventh inning. Jared Wallace doubled to left center with one out to put the go-ahead run in scoring position for the Orediggers. Josh Eckert earned his sole strike out of the game to get the second out of the inning. Metro State Head Coach Bobby Pierce replaced Eckert with Derek Colbert. Nick Wong lined a shot to second base, but Troy Spahn was not able to make the play and Wallace scored to give the Orediggers the 5-4 lead.

MSCD moved to 31-7 and 23-3 in the RMAC. The two teams will face off again in another doubleheader Sunday, starting at 12 p.m.
