'Runners Take Two from Colorado School of Mines
April 13, 2008
The No. 10 Metro State baseball team took two games from the Colorado School of Mines in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action Sunday at Auraria Field. The Roadrunners won the first game 9-3 and prevailed 5-2 in the second game. Metro State exploded for four runs in the third inning, including a two-run home run from Eric Mansfield. Two more runs came across after an errant throw by the Orediggers' catcher allowed Tyree Abshire to reach first after a strike out. Sophomore Ted Jamison (4-2) pitched 7 2/3 innings and allowed just six hits and struck out nine. The 'Runners came out fast in the second game of the day, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Reece Gorman singled to left to score Mansfield, then stole second and third and came across the plate on an error by the Orediggers' pitcher. Metro State would add another run on a sacrifice fly by Josh Marner. That would be all the offense the 'Runners' pitching staff would need. Joel Lockhart (7-1) went 5 1/3 innings and allowed just three hits. Josh Eckert earned the save allowing just two hits in 1 2/3 innings of work. MSCD improved to 33-7 and 25-3 in the RMAC. They return to the field Tuesday when they travel to Greeley to face Univerity of Northern Colorado in a non-conference game. |
