Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Colorado Christian
April 18, 2008
The No. 9 Metro State baseball team split a doubleheader with Colorado Christian, Friday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 decision in the series opener, before stealing a 7-6 extra inning victory in the afternoon finale. Andrew Kaiser was untouchable for the Cougars in game one, going the full nine innings, striking out 10 Roadrunners and giving up only five hits in a 1-0 opening game thriller. Neither team had an extra base hit in the contest. The Cougars nearly made it two in a row in game two, but Metro was able to hold off an eighth inning CCU rally to escape with a 7-6 victory. Each team went into the extended frame knotted up at four apiece, when Metro unleashed for a three run, two hit eighth inning to put the Cougars in a deep hole with one chance left. CCU made a run of it in the bottom of the inning, pulling off two runs and four hits, coming up just short when Chris Guyer struck out swinging with two men on base. Eric Mansfield went 2-4 with an RBI for Metro in the win, while Josh Eckert scored the win, improving to 6-1 on the season. Metro State moved to 34-8 overall and 26-4 in the RMAC. The two teams will face off tomorrow in another doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. at Regis University. |
