Wagstaff Earns Academic All-District Honors

Feb. 7, 2008

DENVER, COLO. - Metro State's Jesse Wagstaff was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District men's basketball first team, the committee announced Thursday.

The district named five student-athletes to both the first and second teams. There are eight districts nationally. Wagstaff and the other first-team selections now advance to the national ballot and are eligible for academic all-America honors.

Wagstaff, the RMAC Academic Player of the Year, earned all-District second-team honors last year as a sophomore. The junior has a 4.0 grade point average in civil engineering. He ranks second on the team in scoring (14.3 ppg), while he is first in rebounding (6.2 rpg). Wagstaff was named the RMAC Player of the Week, Jan. 28.

To be eligible for the program, the student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, must have a grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale and must be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically.

One other RMAC student-athlete was honored as Ben Mohr of Colorado School of Mines earned second-team honors.

Metro State, 13-11 overall, is at Regis, Feb. 8.
