Defense Boosts Metro State Over Chadron State, 54-37

CHADRON, NEB. -- Metro State held Chadron State to its lowest point total of the season as the Roadrunners defeated the Eagles, 54-37, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game, Thursday evening at Armstrong Gymnasium.

Metro State never trailed in the game as it jumped out to a 31-14 halftime advantage. The Roadrunners shot 12-for-25 in the first half, while holding the Eagles to just 21.7 percent and five field goals from the floor.

Ashley Mickens was the only player in the game to reach double figures, as she had 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Alyssa Benson added nine points for Metro State. However, for the Roadrunners, nine players had at least four points in the game.

Metro State forced 27 Eagle turnovers and scored 22 points off those miscues. It is the Roadrunners' seventh consecutive win over Chadron State.

With the win, Metro State improves to 14-6 overall, 10-2 in the RMAC, while Chadron State falls to 6-13 overall, 4-8 in the conference. The Roadrunners are at Nebraska-Kearney, Saturday at 2 p.m., CST.
