Torrid Shooting Lifts Regis Over Metro State, 78-74

Feb. 8, 2008

Box Score

DENVER, COLO. -- Four players scored in double figures for Metro State but Regis' torrid shooting from the field was the difference as the Rangers posted a 78-74 victory in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game, Friday evening at Regis Fieldhouse.

Stephanie Sauter scored 15 points on five three pointers, while Paige Powers had 14 points and Ashley Mickens added 13 points, 13 rebounds and five assists for the Roadrunners. Breanne Burley had 17 points and 10 assists, while Stevi Seitz added 24 points and nine rebounds for the Rangers.

Regis led by just one, 73-72, with 48 seconds to play after a Carolyn Dennee jumper, but on the ensuing possession Burley hit a layup to give Regis a three-point lead. After a Metro State turnover, Burley hit two free throws to give Regis an insurmountable 77-72 advantage with 20 seconds remaining.

Regis shot 55.8 percent from the floor for the game, including 13-for-27 from three-point range. The Rangers built a 42-32 halftime lead after shooting 59.3 percent from the floor with eight treys.

Metro State held a 17-7 advantage at the charity stripe, outrebounded the Rangers, 37-30, and had five fewer turnovers (21-16), but could not overcome the Rangers' shooting.

With the win, Regis improves to 12-10 overall, 8-6 in the RMAC, while Metro State falls to 14-8 overall, 10-4 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners are at UC-Colorado Springs, Saturday at 6 p.m.
