Bratton Leads Metro State Over Colorado Christian, 71-64

DENVER, COLO. - Junior Cassondra Bratton scored a career-high 24 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Metro State to a 71-64 victory over Colorado Christian in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game, Tuesday evening at the Auraria Events Center.

Bratton was one of four Roadrunners in double figures as Paige Powers had 12 points, Ashley Mickens added 11 points and 10 boards and Alyssa Benson posted 10 points. Sara Davis led Colorado Christian with 18 points and six rebounds.

Metro State led 37-30 at the half but the Cougars slowly chipped away, getting it down to three points, 55-52, with 8:07 to go after four straight buckets, including three treys. However, Metro State hit two straight shots of its own to push it back up to seven. It was a six-point advantage, 64-58, with 2:51 to play but Benson hit a three and Bratton hit a layup to extend the margin to 11 points, 69-58, with 1:27 left.

The Roadrunners were 14-for-15 from the charity stripe, including 9-for-9 from Bratton. Metro State also forced 21 turnovers in the contest.

Metro State led 29-15 early, only to see CCU fight back and cut it to six, 33-27, with 2:50 left in the first half. Four straight points by the Roadrunners again made the lead 10, and Metro State settled for a seven-point halftime advantage. Bratton had 15 of her points in the opening 20 minutes, including 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Metro State has now won 11 straight over the Cougars.

With the win, Metro State improves to 17-9 overall, 13-5 in the RMAC, while Colorado Christian falls to 13-16 overall, 9-9 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners host Colorado School of Mines, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.
