Roadrunners Drop Final Two Games At CSU-Pueblo Tournament

PUEBLO, COLO. -- Metro State dropped its final two games at the season-opening CSU-Pueblo Softball Tourney, falling to UC-Colorado Springs, 8-6, before losing to Fort Hays State, 11-6, Sunday afternoon in Pueblo, Colo.

In the first game of the day, UCCS scored three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to lead 8-3 after five innings. Metro State hit three home runs on the day as Danni Hedstrom, Kailee Vessey and Sarah Rusch all went deep. Hedstrom was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Jessica Haab also added two hits for the Roadrunners.

In the nightcap, Metro State led 4-0 after two innings but Fort Hays answered with five runs in the third. The game was tied at six after seven innings to force extra frames, but the Tigers scored five runs in the top of the eighth to pull out the win.

Nicole Lyles went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two home runs, while Ashley Johnson and Vessey each had two RBI for Metro State.

Metro State is now 2-3 on the season. The Roadrunners are off next weekend but take on the University of Mary, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m.
