Softball Splits Series with Regis

The Metro State softball team split two games with crosstown rival Regis in Rocky Mountaion Athletic Conference (RMAC) play, Thursday afternoon at Auraria Field. In the first game of the day, Metro scored first in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Sarah Rusch singled to left field, followed by a home run from Ashley Johnson. The 'Runners followed with three more runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Regis scored two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to close the score to 5-3. Back to back doubles from Danni Hedstrom and Rusch added an insurance run for the 'Runners pushing the final score to 6-4. Libby Balogh finished off the Rangers pitching two scoreless innings and earning her first save of the year. The two teams traded runs early in the second game with Metro holding a slim 5-4 lead after three innings. Regis tied the score in the top of the sixth inning and then put two more runs on the board in the top of the seventh. The 'Runners could not get a base runner in the bottom of the seventh and fell by the final of 7-5. Metro State moved to 17-12 and 13-7 in the RMAC. They return to the field Friday and Saturday for a pair of RMAC doubleheaders at Colorado School of Mines. The games will be crucial to the RMAC standings, as the Orediggers are currently 11-5 in conference. |
