'Runners Split Two Games With Fort Lewis

April 11, 2008

The Metro State softball team went 1-1 against Fort Lewis in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play, Friday in Durango. The Skyhawks took the first game 2-0 and Metro State rebounded to the win the second game, 7-2.

Reigning RMAC Pithcer of the Week Cary Moone was the story of the first game. The Georgia Southern transfer pitched a complete game shutout and struck out 11 Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners got their offense going in the second game of the day to take a 7-2 victory. The two teams remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when Ashley Johnson hit her 14th home run of the season to give the 'Runners a 1-0 lead. After Danni Hedstrom singled, the Skyhawks inserted Moone to pitch. This time Molly Clark would have the answer, hitting a two-run shot to give the 'Runners the 3-0 lead. That would be all the offense Jessica Fisher would need, as she pitched a complete game allowing just two runs and striking out nine.

Metro State stands at 22-15 overall and 18-10 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners will stay in Durango and play a doubleheader against Mesa State tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.
