Volleyball Adds Two More to 2008 Roster

April 17, 2008

Amanda Cook and Ngoc Phan will join the Metro State volleyball team in 2008, Head Coach Debbie Hendricks announced today. Cook, a 5-10 outside hitter from Bellevue, Neb. will be a junior and Phan, a 5-5 defensive specialist will be a freshman.

Cook joins the Roadrunners after two seasons at the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Neb. She was a two-time All-Midland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection and was selected to the 2007 NAIA All-Region Team. In her two seasons, Cook posted 1042 kills, 1113 digs and a .233 hitting percentage. She helped the Flames to a 59-21 overall record and the 2006 MCAC title.

"Amanda is a solid attacker and defender who will bring good collegiate experience to the floor," Hendricks said. "I think she will be a solid contributor to this program once she adjusts to Division II play."

Phan is a Lone Tree, Colo. native who played two years of varsity volleyball at Cherry Creek High School, where she was selected to the Second-Team All-Centennial League. She is a defensive specialist/libero currently playing for the Colorado Performance Volleyball Club.

"Ngoc has a lot of potential as a defensive specialist," Hendricks said. "She is still learning the game, but she moves very well and has great defensive instincts."

Metro State begins the 2008 season, August 29-30 at the Hawaiian Style Classic in Hilo, Hawai'i.
