OXFORD, Ohio - A three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning by junior Jordan Petraitis propelled the RedHawks to a 5-3 win over the Purdue Boilermakers in non-conference action at McKie Field at Hayden Park Tuesday evening. With the win, Miami (10-23) improved to 3-1 over Big Ten teams this season.

Senior Evan Armitage led off the first inning with a single through the left side and then moved from first base to third base on a single through the right side by junior Chris Nadeau. Junior Tommy Nurre came to the plate and manufactured a run with a sacrifice fly that plated Armitage, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 edge. On the next pitch, freshman John Hornke drove a pitch to the right center field wall, resulting in an RBI triple, which gave the RedHawks a 2-0 first-inning cushion.

Purdue (17-16) cut Miami's lead to 2-1 in the second inning as Dan Black led off the inning with a solo home run to right-center field.

Purdue loaded the bases in the third and fourth innings, but the RedHawks got out of both innings without giving up a run. However, the Black belted his second solo home run of the game in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Just as the Boilermakers tied it, the RedHawks jumped back in front. Junior J.D. Mynhier led off the inning with a pinch-hit single up the middle and he moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Armitage reached base courtesy of a four-pitch walk, bringing Petraitis to the plate. With a two balls, one strike count, Petraitis hit a hanging breaking ball over the left-center field wall to extend Miami's lead to 5-2. The home run was Petraitis' fourth of the season.

The Boilermakers tacked on a run in the eighth inning, but freshman Samuel Dawes retired the side in order in the ninth inning to preserve the 5-3 RedHawk win.

Petraitis led the RedHawks with three RBIs, while senior Bobby Oberschlake registered his second win of the season and Dawes collected his second save in four games.

The RedHawks return to McKie Field at Hayden Park tomorrow night when Miami welcomes local foe Xavier to town for a 6 p.m. start.
