Box Score

ATHENS, Ohio - After having its opening game of a three-game set resumed on Saturday due to rain on Friday evening, the RedHawks had a runner on third base with two outs, but the runner could not score as the RedHawks fell to Ohio, 6-5.

Last night, Miami scored two runs in the second inning as freshman Kyle Weldon hit a two-RBI double into left-center field, which put the RedHawks in front, 2-0. A three-run home run by Marc Krauss put Ohio ahead 3-2 in the fourth inning, but a solo home run by junior Josh Hula tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning.

After the Bobcats took a one-run lead, 4-3, into the seventh inning, Miami catapulted itself back on top as a two-run home run by junior Jordan Petraitis lifted the RedHawks to a 5-4 lead.

The see-saw battle continued as Ohio scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to re-establish a one-run cushion, 6-5. Following the final out of the inning, the game went into a 55-minute rain delay before the game was officially postponed until 1 p.m. on Saturday.

After both teams were retired in order in the eighth inning, freshman Adam Eaton reached base via an infield single to lead things off. Eaton moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt, before moving to third base on a ground ball to the right side. However, a ground ball to third base ended the game and gave Ohio a 6-5 win.

Petraitis led the RedHawks with two hits and two RBIs.

The RedHawks and Bobcats will now play the first game of a scheduled Saturday twin-bill at 1:40 p.m.. The second game of the doubleheader will begin approximately 40 minutes following the completion of the first game.
