Dec. 19, 2007

OXFORD, Ohio - Former Miami University quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been voted to the first Pro Bowl of his career for his play in the 2007 season.

In 2007, Roethlisberger has led the Pittsburgh Steelers into a first-place tie with the Cleveland Browns in the AFC North with a 9-5 record. He has thrown for 2,897 yards on 249-of-385 passing with 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His 100.5 quarterback rating ranks fourth among all National Football League quarterbacks this season, while his 29 touchdowns rank third in the league.

Roethlisberger, a Findlay, Ohio native, is the second Miami University player to be named to a Pro Bowl roster and the first since Ernie Kellerman did so as a member of the Browns in 1968 (www.pro-football-reference.com).

Roethlisberger is joined on the AFC roster by fellow signal-callers Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

After being selected with the 11th overall pick by the Steelers in the 2004 NFL Draft, Roethlisberger was named the 2004 NFL Rookie of the Year, breaking Dan Marino's rookie records for completion percentage and quarterback rating, and has made two AFC Championship Game appearances.

Miami's career record holder in every major passing category, Roethlisberger was a three-time all-MAC pick, the 2001 MAC Freshman of the Year and the 2003 MAC Player of the Year.

The 2008 Pro Bowl will be played on Feb. 10 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii and televised on FOX.
