RedHawks Finish Day Two of MAC/Sun Belt Championships in Sixth Place

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Chris Heaton earned Miami's first top-finish of the Mid-American Conference/Sun Belt Championships with a win in the three-meter dive, but the RedHawks fell a spot and sit in sixth place following day two of the MAC/Sun Belt Championships. Miami opened day two of the championships with a six-place finish in the 200 medley relay before freshman Darin Smith scored Miami's first individual points of the day with a 13th place finish in the 400 individual medley. Smith clocked in with a time of 4:06.73. The RedHawks failed to score any points in the 100 fly, but senior Ryan McHugh registered a sixth-place time of 1:40.36, adding 13 points to Miami's score. Senior Paul Ricard also scored points with a 16th place finish in the 200 free. Senior Blake Norman qualified for the `A' final in the 100 breaststroke and in the final heat, Norman clocked in with a time of 57.65, which was seventh. Sophomore Michael Carroll scored five more points by touching the wall in a time of 57.99, earning a 12th-place finish. Junior Nick DuPuis was the lone RedHawk to score points in the 100 backstroke as he clocked in with a time of 51.59, which earned him a 14th-place finish. The RedHawks scored a sixth-place showing in the 800 freestyle relay, before Heaton notched Miami's first top-finish of the championships as he won the three-meter dive with a score of 382.25.
After day two of the MAC/Sun Belt Championships, Missouri State sits in first place followed by Denver, Eastern Michigan, Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois.
