Miami Men to Host Strong Field This Weekend in the Miami Challenge

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami men's track a field team, after a successful roadtrip to the University of Cincinnati for the Nikoloff Invitational last weekend, returns home to compete in the Miami Challenge this Friday and Saturday. The RedHawks will host a high-caliber field this weekend consisting of Buffalo, Butler, Cedarville, Dayton, Findlay, Hillsdale, IPFW, IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, Rio Grande, Tiffin, Valparaiso, and Wright State. Miami finished second behind Cincinnati last year, and won the Challenge in 2006. At the Nikoloff Invitational, the RedHawk men finished third out of 18 teams. Miami's sole first-place finish came in the 5,000-meter when Michael Veatch crossed the line at 14:33.77, followed closely behind by teammate Michael Perry with a time of 14:50.17. The Miami relay team of Jason Coniglio, Kevin Dwyer, Josh Rees and Kyle Alexander took fifth in the 4X100-meter with a time of 42.27. In the 4X400-meter, Cedric Diakabana, Ryan Sottoway, Steffan Flessa, and Michael Spangler finished seventh in a strong field in 3:21.88. Travis Brumm cleared 6-8 ¾ in the high jump, earning him second-place. Fellow jumper Rees earned seventh in the triple jump with a bound of 42-6 ¼. Distance runner Ryan Deszo rounded out the meet with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:45.83.
After facing off in the Miami Challenge, the RedHawk men will head to Cincinnati for the All-Ohio Championships on April 18 and 19. |
