Akron, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday at a special ceremony at the MAC Softball Tournament at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio the 2008 All-MAC teams, MAC All-Freshman team and the specialty award winners.

Six RedHawks were named to the All-MAC teams, the most by any program in the conference. Sarah Billstrom (shortstop), Alicia Hogl (utility/non-pitcher), Meghan Mawn (second base) and Breanna Robinson (outfield) were all named to the All-MAC first team, while Meredith Linch (pitcher) and Halle Popson (first base) were honored as members of the second team.

In addition to earning a spot on the first team, Mawn was also tabbed the MAC Freshman of the Year. Mawn becomes the RedHawks third freshman to achieve top honors and the first since 1991. She batted safely in 18 of 22 Mid-American Conference contests and compiled six multiple hit games during her freshman season. She had doubles in three consecutive games (April 4-6) while scoring 17 runs in conference play.

Sarah Billstrom, Sophomore, Douglasville, Ga.

Billstrom had a big year at shortstop for the RedHawks this season, setting new career-highs in batting average (.340), at-bats (133), runs (20), hits (48), doubles (10), home runs (2), RBI (20) and stolen bases (12). In MAC play, Billstrom had the sixth most hits (25) by any player in the conference, and ranked third in the league for doubles with six.

Alicia Hogl, Sophomore, Bellingham, Wash.

After an impressive freshman year, Alicia Hogl stepped up her game during her second year with Miami, raising her batting average by 81 points. Hogl was one of three RedHawks to start all 50 games during the 2008 season. She ranks second on the team in hits (51), home runs (3) and runs batted in (25).

Meredith Linch, Sophomore, Eatonton, Ga.

Linch was a workhorse for Miami this season, averaging 6.17 innings per game in MAC contests, the second most by any conference pitcher. She also ranked second in complete games with 11. Linch struck out five or more batters in 12 starts this season, and allowed two earned runs or less in 19 contests. She set a career-high for wins in a season in 2008 with 14.

Meghan Mawn, Freshman, Long Beach, Calif.

Mawn set the conference ablaze during her rookie campaign, hitting .412 in MAC games this season, placing her third in the league for batting average. Mawn has reached base safely in each of her last 10 games, helping to increase her on-base percentage to .474 for the year. She sits in fifth place in the conference for the category.

Halle Popson, Senior, Solon, Ohio

In her senior season at Miami, Halle Popson set a number of MU career-records, including at-bats (683), runs (137), hits (239) and walks (171). She also set Miami's single-season record and led the MAC in runs scored with 45. Popson was one of three Miamians to start all 50 games for the team in 2008. She committed just two errors in 308 opportunities this season.

Breanna Robinson, Senior, Toledo, Ohio

2008 was a record-breaking year for Robinson, who set Miami's single-season record for runs batted in (51) and home runs (11). Robinson was one of three players on Miami's roster to start all 50 games this year. She leads the MAC in runs batted in (51), total bases (109) and slugging percentage (.714). Robinson reached base in 40-of-50 games for the RedHawks this year.
