LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Miami went toe-to-toe with No. 71 Kentucky on Sunday, forcing three sets in all but one match, but the Wildcats escaped with a 5-2 victory over the RedHawks at the Boone Tennis Complex. Freshman Christine Guerrazzi was the lone singles winner, while Miami also captured the doubles point.
Miami (2-3) dropped the No. 1 doubles match 8-4, but rebounded with back-to-back wins to open a 1-0 lead. Guerrazzi and Christiana Raymond captured an 8-6 win at No. 3, then Nimisha Mohan and Riekie Honiball took an 8-5 decision at No. 2.
Kentucky (3-1) quickly evened the score at 1-1 by winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1. Wildcats players won the first set in all of the other five matches, but Miami didn't quit. The RedHawks stormed back to take second sets across the board. However, Kentucky captured four straight matches to secure the win.
Guerrazzi capped the match by defeating Misha Testerman, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6), in the final action of the day.
The RedHawks return to action next Saturday when they travel to Kentucky.
