Five Tiger Softball Players Earn All-Midwest Region Honors, Set Program Record

May 15, 2008

Iowa City, Iowa-Five members of the Missouri softball team earned All-Midwest Region honors as announced today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Senior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill,), junior Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) and freshman Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) earned first-team accolades, while senior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) and junior Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) were named to the second team. Missouri's five recipients are a program high and ties Oklahoma for the most honorees of the 2008 campaign. The most all-region honorees Missouri had prior to 2008 was four, set in 1994.

Earning her second consecutive All-Midwest Region accolade, Renth becomes the first Tiger since Rachael McGinnis and Melanie Fischer to earn back-to-back nods (2001-02) and the 12th to earn multiple honors. Taylor, the 2008 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, becomes Missouri's first freshman since 2001 named to the All-Midwest Region team.

A total of 25 individuals were selected for the All-Midwest Region team with 12 earning first team honors and 13 garnishing second team awards.

The Missouri softball team is preparing for its 12th appearance at an NCAA Regional Tournament and will square off with the Iowa Hawkeyes Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. (CT) on Bob Pearl Field in Iowa City, Iowa.
