Geesman, Silverman Named as Pilgrim Wrestling League Scholar-Athlete All-Stars

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT wrestling standouts Glenn Geesman and Joe Silverman were recently named to the Pilgrim League 2008 Scholar-Athlete All-Star Team. Geesman, a heavyweight, will soon be on his way to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to compete in the Division III National Tournament. The junior was awarded the trip after delivering an almost perfect performance at the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) meet on Feb. 23-24. That weekend, Geesman posted a 6-1 ledger, including five pins that gave him a league-leading 21 for season. He finished the local slate at 31-5, while ranking second in the league in his weight class and earning Pilgrim League All-Star Honorable Mention honors. Silverman, at 197 pounds, closed the campaign with a solid 22-15 record. The sophomore will best be remembered for his superb outing at a Jan. 26 quad-match hosted by MIT, when he posted a 3-0 record, including a stunning 4-0 decision over his No. 7 nationally-ranked opponent from Bridgewater State College. For his remarkable effort, Silverman garnered Pilgrim League Wrestler of the Week honors. |
