EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior Kevin Reiman, a second-team All-Big Ten midfielder on the Michigan State men's soccer team, was selected in the supplemental draft of the MLS by Real Salt Lake. Reiman, a native of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., was the third pick (28th overall) of the third round of the supplemental draft, a four-round draft that is added on to the Superdraft, which was held earlier this month. Reiman joins senior teammate Rauwshan McKenzie as the two Spartan players to be invited to play in the MLS. He also becomes the fourth MSU player in the past four years to be selected.

"We're very happy for Kevin," MSU head coach Joe Baum said. "He is very talented and I think he has a chance to make it. He is quick enough that it could be a good fit for him."

Reiman shined in his second season with Michigan State, ranking second on the team in assists (5) and shots on goal (12) and third on the team in shots (33). He started 20 matches in the midfield for MSU, often setting up All-Big Ten forwards Doug DeMartin and Kenzo Webster.

"Kevin is a great playmaker," Baum said. "He loves to beat his man and get the ball to the forwards, and he is very good at that."

During his two seasons, Reiman scored one goal and had nine assists. He played in 39 contests for MSU, starting 31. He played his first two seasons at Maryland, where he helped the Terrapins to a pair of College Cup appearances and the 2005 NCAA Championship.

Reiman and McKenzie are the latest Spartans to play at the sport's next level. The Kansas City Wizards selected MSU's John Minagawa-Webster in the fourth round of the 2005 draft, and Ryan McMahen was picked by the same team in the second round in 2006. McMahen is currently under contract with the Wizards, but did not play this past season.
