Jan. 29, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior Kyle Perry and senior Carlee Clark-Platt have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively. Perry receives the honor after running the fourth-fastest mile time in the nation this season, according to TrackShark.com. The Sandy, Utah, native, ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:02.56 to win the men's mile at the MWC/Big 12 Conference Challenge hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He finished eight seconds faster than any other athlete in the event, which included runners from No. 12 Nebraska, Air Force Academy, Kansas State, No. 23 Missouri, and Colorado State. Perry's performance currently leads the league in 2008 and is fifth all-time in the MWC. Clark-Platt earns the women's honor for her performances in the mile run at the MWC/Big 12 Conference Challenge and the 800-meter run at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational. The middle-distance runner from Bozeman, Mont., clocked a mile time of 4:55.12 to earn third place in the Conference Challenge. The time currently ranks first in the league this season. She went on to run a 2:09.78 in the 800-meter later that day at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational to win the event, beating other runners in her heat by more than 12 seconds. Clark-Platt's 800-meter time also ranks first in the Conference this season, ninth all-time in the BYU record book and was .38 seconds shy of the national provisional mark.
