Mountain West Conference Announces Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

BYU's Bob Low and TCU's Kishelle Paul Honored

April 8, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior Bob Low and TCU junior Kishelle Paul have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Low placed first in his section of the pole vault at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, held in Austin, Texas, with a league-best jump of 17'-06.50" (5.35m). The mark ties for the third-highest jump in the country (TrackShark.com), qualifies as his lifetime-best outdoor jump and makes him eligible for NCAA Regionals. The Provo, Utah, native, competed against a prestigious field of 20, including student-athletes from pre-season nationally-ranked LSU (No. 2), USC (No. 5), UCLA (No. 7), Texas (No. 12), Baylor (No. 14), Kansas (No. 18), and Texas Tech (No 25), among others.

Hailing from Marrietta, Ga., Paul placed second overall at the Texas Relays in the women's 400-meter hurdles, clocking an NCAA regional-qualifying time of 57.84 seconds. The time currently ranks first in the MWC and second nationally, according to TrackShark.com. Paul went on to run a leg on both the TCU 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams. With Paul's help, the Horned Frogs turned in a time of 44.22 seconds in the 4x100, placing fourth overall and moving TCU into sixth in the country (TrackShark.com). The sprinter went on to lead her team to a sixth-place finish in the 4x400, recording a time of 3:37.63, which ranks seventh in the nation (TrackShark.com). Both relay teams qualified for NCAA Regionals. Paul's competition included student-athletes from No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 14 Texas Tech, No. 15 Kansas and No. 20 California.

This marks Low's first career weekly honor and Paul's second.
