MWC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Air Force's Addison Gentry and San Diego State's Addison Reed honored.
March 17, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force sophomore Addison Gentry and San Diego State right-hander Addison Reed have been named Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the first career weekly award for both recipients. Gentry, a Roseville, Calif., native, batted .455 (5-for-11) for the week, with one home run, one double, seven RBI and two runs scored in leading the Falcons to a series win over South Dakota State. In a 5-3 game two win, Gentry went 2-for-3 with an RBI. In the final game of the series, he went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, a career-high six RBI and two runs scored in Air Force's 11-8 win. Gentry got started with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. With AFA trailing 7-3 in the fifth inning, Gentry stepped to the plate and hit a grand slam to tie the game. Reed, from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., recorded a win and a save in two appearances in San Diego State's conference series sweep over BYU last week. In his game two win, he came on in relief in the bottom of the 11th inning of a tied game with two runners on, to record a strikeout and end the threat. He pitched the final 3.1 innings of the contest, allowing only two base runners, while striking out four and walking none. The following night, he came on in the ninth inning to retire the side in order to record a save in the Aztecs' 6-5 victory.
