SAN DIEGO STATE HOLDS STRONG IN LEAGUE STANDINGS
Thanks to its three-game sweep of Utah last weekend, San Diego State (21-15, 9-3 MWC) holds on to the top spot in the MWC standings heading into the week. The Rebels (14-19, 5-7 MWC) moved down to fifth in the Conference, while Utah (13-17, 3-5 MWC) remains in sixth and Air Force (11-22, 0-11 MWC) is seventh.

THIS WEEK IN THE MWC
The MWC heads into the second half of league play this week as a total of 23 games are slated on the schedule. Conference play begins on Thursday with BYU hosting TCU. Saturday's series finale between the Cougars and Horned Frogs will be shown live on BYUTV and tape delayed on The Mtn. on Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m. MT. The other league match-ups on this week's docket feature Utah at New Mexico and San Diego State at UNLV. Both series begin Friday night. Air Force will be in non-conference play this week, taking on Utah Valley and Northern Colorado on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

This week's non-conference play begins Tuesday with New Mexico and UNLV beginning two-game series action against No. 22 Arizona and Texas Tech, respectively, Utah Valley at Utah, Southern Utah at BYU, UC Riverside at San Diego State and TCU hosting Oklahoma. Wednesday's other game will see Air Force hosting Colorado Christian.

SAN DIEGO STATE'S STRASBURG EARNS NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES
San Diego State sophomore right-hander Stephen Strasburg was one of three student-athletes to be named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by "Collegiate Baseball" Newspaper, while also being named Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the week of April 14.

Strasburg threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout in San Diego State's 1-0 win over Utah last Friday, setting a new Aztec and Mountain West Conference record with 23 strikeouts. Strasburg struck out the side in the first inning, as well as the fifth through eighth innings. A total of 16 of the final 17 outs he recorded came via the strikeout. The 23 K's ties for the third-most ever in a Division I game nationally and are the most in a game since the 1981 season. Strasburg did not allow a hit until the sixth inning and permitted only three Ute baserunners with none advancing past second base. The Utes, who came into the contest batting .322, hit just .038 on the night.
