CONFERENCE RACE COMES DOWN TO FINAL WEEKEND OF THE REGULAR SEASON
Heading into the final week of the regular season, No. 24 TCU (36-16, 16-5 MWC) and New Mexico (32-32, 16-5 MWC) are tied atop the league standings. San Diego State (30-22, 16-8 MWC) maintained its third place standing, while Utah (21-24, 9-12 MWC) moved into fourth, and UNLV (20-32, 8-13 MWC) and BYU (20-33, 8-13 MWC) are tied for fifth. Air Force (16-32, 2-19 MWC) rounds out the rankings in seventh.

THIS WEEK IN THE MWC
The final week of the regular season will see six of seven conference institutions in league play, highlighted by the battle between No. 24 TCU and New Mexico in Albuquerque for first place and the top seed in next week's Phillips 66 MWC Baseball Championship . The Lobos took two of three games from the Horned Frogs earlier this season in Fort Worth. The series finale will be televised live on The Mtn. at Noon MT, Saturday, May 17. Other league match-ups will see UNLV at Air Force and BYU at Utah. San Diego State will be in non-conference series play at No. 8 Cal State Fullerton. San Diego State, UNLV and Utah will be in non-conference action Tuesday with games against 25th-ranked Long Beach State, UC Riverside and Southern Utah, respectively.

TCU TO HOST 2008 PHILLIPS 66 MWC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2008 Phillips 66 Mountain West Conference Baseball Tournament will be hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, and will be played at Charlie and Marie Lupton Stadium and Williams-Reilly Field on the TCU campus. Constructed in 2001 and 2002, the state-of-the-art ballpark is widely-regarded as one of the premier facilities in all of college baseball. The Lupton Stadium seating capacity is 3,500 and has been the Horned Frogs home field since the 2003 season. The Phillips 66 MWC Baseball Championship will take place May 20-24 (Tuesday-Saturday). The tournament will be a six-team, double-elimination format with the top two seeds receiving a first-round bye.

THREE MWC STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
Three MWC baseball student-athletes were named ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). TCU's Hunt Woodruff and Clint Arnold were first-team District 6 selections, while New Mexico's Bobby Moore was a second-team District 6 honoree. Woodruff has a 3.81 grade-point average in pre-medicine, while Arnold, a communications major, is maintaining a 3.58 GPA. Moore, a finance major, has a 3.33 overall grade-point average.

SDSU'S STRASBURG EARNS THIRD LOUISVILLE SLUGGER NATIONAL HONOR
For the third time this season, San Diego State sophomore right-hander Stephen Strasburg has been named one of three Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week by "Collegiate Baseball" Newspaper. Strasburg tossed his third consecutive complete-game victory in the Aztecs' 8-1 win at BYU last Thursday. He allowed just two hits and walked one batter, while striking out 15, his second highest total of the season. It was the sixth straight contest in which he finished in double figures in strikeouts. After giving up a base hit in the fourth, which led to an unearned run on a wild pitch, Strasburg struck out the next seven batters and faced only one batter over the minimum in his final 5.2 innings. With his 15 K's, Strasburg broke the MWC record for strikeouts in a season for conference games with 92 and also finished league play with a 0.63 earned run average to set a new league all-time mark.
