League-leading BYU wins 44th consecutive home game

BYU won a Saturday match-up between MWC frontrunners with a victory over UNLV in Provo on Saturday.  In other MWC action Saturday, Air Force defeated Wyoming, New Mexico beat TCU and Utah topped San Diego State. 

Utah 72, San Diego State 66

  • Utah has won four straight for the first time since winning the first four games of the 2005-06 season.
  • Saturday's game was played in front of more than 100 former Utah men's basketball players. That group included 12 of the 16 men who were named to the Utes' All-Century Team this week.
  • A crowd of 14,653 watched the game, marking the largest home attendance figure for Utah since Feb. 26, 2005 when 15,014 attended a BYU-Utah contest.

Air Force 72, Wyoming 66
USAFA, Colo. Sat., Feb. 16, 2008
  • Air Force snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over Wyoming. The Falcons have defeated the Cowboys in four of their last five meetings. Wyoming has not won in Clune Arena since 2003.
  • The Falcons recorded season-highs vs. an MWC opponent with 16 assists, nine steals and 50 percent shooting from 3-point range against the Cowboys.
  • Air Force is 66-5 overall and 33-4 in MWC action at Clune Arena since the beginning of the 2003-04 season.

BYU 74, UNLV 48

  • BYU is off to its best MWC start in school history at 9-1. It also marks the Cougars' best start to conference play since going 14-1 as a member of the WAC in 1992-93.
  • With the victory, the Cougars recorded their third straight 20-win season and 31st overall. BYU Head Coach Dave Rose is the third Cougar skipper to win at least 20 games in each of his first three seasons at the helm.
  • BYU has won 44 straight games in the Marriott Center, tying its own school and MWC record for consecutive home wins.

New Mexico 64, TCU 48
Albuquerque, N.M. Sat., Feb. 16, 2008
  • New Mexico forced 23 TCU turnovers, tying for the most by a Lobo opponent this season. The Lobos have caused 66 turnovers the past three games.
  • The Lobos have won four consecutive conference games for the first time since a four-game run from February 4-15, 2006.
  • New Mexico has won 20 games for the 21st time in school history, all coming since the 1963-64 season. It also marks the ninth 20-win season for head coach Steve Alford in 16 full seasons as a collegiate head coach.
