League-leading BYU riding a nine-game win streak

League-leading BYU collected its 45th consecutive home win with a victory over in-state rival Utah on Wednesday.  In other mid-week MWC action, New Mexico topped Air Force for its fifth straight victory, while TCU defeated Colorado State and San Diego State snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over Wyoming. 

San Diego State 79, Wyoming 68
Laramie, Wyo. Tues., Feb. 19, 2008
  • San Diego State snapped a three-game losing streak with Tuesday's win over Wyoming. It was the Aztecs' longest losing streak since March of 2005.
  • The 11-point margin of victory over the Cowboys in Laramie was the largest for the Aztecs since an 86-73 win on March 1, 2003.
  • The Aztecs improve to 11-0 this season when scoring 70 or more points in a game.

BYU 67, Utah 59
USAFA, Colo. Wed., Feb. 20, 2008
  • At 10-1 in Mountain West play, the Cougars are off to their best league start since going 14-1 in 1992-1993 as a member of the WAC.
  • BYU pushed its win streak against Utah to four games, including in-season sweeps in the last two years.
  • The Cougars' nine straight wins marks their longest winning streak since 2003-04 when BYU also recorded nine straight wins. BYU has won at least six straight MWC games in each of Dave Rose's three seasons at the helm.

New Mexico 68, Air Force 51

  • New Mexico has won five straight conference games for the first time since a six-game streak from Feb. 14 - March 5, 2005.
  • The Lobos snap a seven-game losing streak to Air Force at the Academy. Prior to Wednesday, New Mexico's last win in Clune Arena was Feb. 12, 2000.
  • In the five-game winning streak, UNM has allowed just 53.6 points a game, while holding opponents to 38.8% shooting from the floor and 31% from 3-point range.

TCU 66, Colorado State 64
Fort Worth, Texas Wed., Feb. 20, 2008
  • TCU scored 25 points off 24 Colorado State turnovers from Colorado State. The Horned Frogs scored more points off turnovers against the Rams then they did in their last three games combined when they netted 21 total points off turnovers against New Mexico, Wyoming and San Diego State.
  • The Horned Frogs shot their second-highest free throw percentage for a game this season at 96.4 percent as TCU connected on 27-of-28 of its charity stripe attempts. Following a miss by Kevin Langford in his second free throw attempts, the Frogs converted 26 consecutive free throws.
  • The TCU bench outscored Colorado State's reserves by a 26-10 margin. The 20 points off the bench marks the third time in the last five games that the Horned Frogs' bench has scored 20 or more points in an outing.
