BYU and UNLV separated by one game atop MWC standings

The top half of the MWC men's basketball standings remained intact as No. 25 BYU edged New Mexico in overtime (70-69) and second-place UNLV defeated San Diego State (68-58) on Tuesday. In Wednesday's league tilts, Wyoming topped Colorado State (77-67) and TCU tripped up Utah (67-61).

- BYU completed an in-season sweep of New Mexico with the overtime victory. The Cougars have won more games vs. the Lobos in The Pit (17) than any other opponent.
- BYU's Trent Plaisted had 23 points and five blocks for the Cougars, while New Mexico's J.R. Giddens led all scorer with 30 points.
- New Mexico came into the game leading the nation in 3-point percentage at 43.7 percent. The Lobos were 3-of-21 (14.3%) vs. BYU, missing 14 of their first 15.
- The contest marked New Mexico's fourth overtime affair of 2007-08, tying a school record for most overtime games in a season. It also was the Lobos' first loss in overtime action this year.

- After trailing 33-31 at halftime, UNLV opened the second half on a 13-3 run and never trailed again as the Runnin' Rebels defeated San Diego State for the sixth time in seven games.
- UNLV's Wink Adams led all scorers with 23 points, while SDSU's Lorrenzo Wade was the only Aztec in double figures with 21.
- The Runnin' Rebels improved to 18-4 vs. the Aztecs at home.

- TCU's Brent Hackett was 7-of-10 from the field and finished with a game-high 19 points.
- TCU and Utah have split their in-season series each of the three years as MWC opponents.
- The Horned Frogs registered their 13th home victory of the season, marking only the seventh time in the 46-year history of the program TCU has reached that benchmark.
- Utah saw its losing skid stretch to three games as top scorer Johnnie Bryant was limited to eight points, nearly half his season average (14.2 ppg).

- Wyoming's Joseph Taylor was 8-of-10 from the field, finishing with a game- and career-high 21 points.
- The Cowboys ended their three-game losing streak and won for only the second time in seven road games.
- Colorado State's 14-game losing streak matches an 88-year school record set when the Rams lost the final 12 games of the 1918-1919 season and the first two games of the 1919-20 campaign.
- Four of five CSU starters scored in double figures, led by Willis Gardner's 16 points, and accounted for all but 12 of the Rams' 67 points in the contest.
