MWC Announces Men's Basketball Player of the Week New Mexico's J.R. Giddens earns fifth weekly award of the season.
March 10, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico's J.R. Giddens has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. Giddens, from Oklahoma City, Okla., led the Lobos to a 2-0 conference record in the final weekend of the regular season with wins over UNLV (59-45) and Colorado State (71-52). Against UNLV, Giddens scored 17 points and grabbed a league game season-best 15 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season. He added five assists and a steal in 39 minutes of action. Against Colorado State, Giddens tallied 13 points (6-for-11 shooting), three assists, one block and one steal in a season-low 21 minutes on the court. For the week, Giddens averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game, while shooting 46.2 percent from the field (12-for-26) and 75 percent from the free throw line (6-for-8).
