Three MWC Student-Athletes Represent League on 2008 Outland Trophy Watch List

April 18, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Three Mountain West Conference student-athletes are among the individuals competing for the coveted 2008 Outland Trophy, presented annually to the best interior lineman in college football. Ray Feinga (BYU), Dallas Reynolds (BYU) and John Fletcher (Wyoming) were named to the 2008 watch list, which currently is comprised of 70 college football players.

The tandem of Feinga and Reynolds helped anchor a 2007 BYU offensive line that provided pass protection for the nation's 25th-ranked offense. The Cougars ranked 14th nationally in passing offense, averaging 298.4 yards per game, while leading the MWC in scoring, first downs, fourth-down conversions, and time of possession on their way to a second consecutive league title.

Fletcher, a defensive tackle from Erie, Colo., ranked No. 11 nationally with 10.5 sacks in his sophomore campaign. The Erie, Colo. native was fourth among MWC defensive linemen with 60 total tackles, including 14.0 tackles for loss (sixth in the MWC).

Three former Outland Trophy recipients played for MWC member institutions. Defensive tackles Jason Buck (BYU) and Chad Hennings (Air Force) earned the 1986 and 1987 Outland Trophies, respectively, while Mohammed Elewonibi, a guard from BYU, was honored in 1989.

Named after the late John Outland, the 2008 Outland Trophy will be awarded on Dec. 11 at the ESPNU Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Fla. Additional candidates may be added to the watch list during the course of the 2008 season. Tackles, guards and centers are eligible for consideration.
