Women's Basketball Update - Jan. 27

The third week of conference play concluded last night, highlighted by the San Diego State at UNLV match-up being televised live on The Mtn. Wyoming and Utah remained perfect in conference play with wins at Colorado State and TCU, respectively.

BYU 41, New Mexico 38
Albuquerque, N.M. Sat., Jan. 26, 2008
  • BYU won at The Pit for the second year in a row. BYU is the only team to win at The Pit in back-to-back years as a member of the MWC.
  • The Cougars won the game despite scoring only 41 points. The last time BYU won a game while scoring 41 points or less was a 40-39 win at Utah on Feb. 15, 1974.
  • The Lobos have started conference play 0-3 for the first time in the history of the MWC.

Utah 60, TCU 50
Fort Worth, Texas Sat., Jan. 26, 2008
  • Utah's Kalee Whipple scored a career-high 30 points on 9-for-11 shooting, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, in the win vs. TCU.
  • The Utes have now won 11 straight games, its longest win streak since winning 15 straight games in the 2000-01 season.
  • The loss to Utah snapped a six-game home win streak for the Horned Frogs.

#18/#19 Wyoming 68, Colorado State 55

  • The Cowgirls win marked their 12th straight victory this season, the largest win streak in school history. Wyoming's No. 18 national ranking is also the team's highest in school history.
  • Wyoming had four players score in double-figures for only the third time this season.
  • Colorado State's Amaka Uzomah scored her first career double-double in the loss to Wyoming. She scored 12 points and 18 rebounds, good enough for second in the conference this season.

San Diego State 75, UNLV 55
Las Vegas, Nev. Sat., Jan. 26, 2008
  • San Diego State's win at UNLV marked its first MWC road-win since a 77-61 win at Air Force on Feb. 26, 2005.
  • The Aztecs' Jene Morris scored a career-high 35 points, including seven straight 3-pointers in the win.
  • UNLV committed 20 turnovers in the first half and 26 overall. Prior to last night's game, the Rebels were averaging 20 turnovers per game.
