Women's Basketball Update - Feb. 14

All four home teams won to kick off the second half of the conference season. Air Force defeated UNLV (71-66), BYU defeated Colorado State (59-44), New Mexico defeated San Diego State (63-54) and TCU defeated Wyoming (73-59).

Air Force 71, UNLV 66
Colorado Springs, Colo. Wed., Feb. 13, 2008
  • The Falcons snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Rebels, dating back to 2003.
  • Air Force's 71 points marks only the second time this season the Falcons have reached the 70+ point plateau. Earlier this season, Air Force defeated Cal State Stanislaus 74-49.
  • UNLV's Sequoia Holmes (25), Shamela Hampton (18) and Brittany Halberg (13) combined for 56 of the team's 66 points in the loss. The Rebels' bench scored just four points, compared to Air Force's 17.

BYU 59, Colorado State 44
Provo, Utah Wed., Feb. 13, 2008
  • The win marked BYU's fifth this season when scoring under 60 points.
  • BYU's Lauren Riley-Varley recorded her fourth double-double this season and 10th overall with her 11 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Colorado State's Amaka Uzomah grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds in her second career start. She has earned double-figure boards four times this season.

New Mexico 63, San Diego State 54
Albuquerque, N.M. Wed., Feb. 13, 2008
  • New Mexico has now won 18 straight contests over San Diego State as the Aztecs have not won in The Pit since 1995.
  • The Lobos are now 35-0 when scoring 60 or more points, dating back to last season. Senior Dionne Marsh led the way with her 12th double-double of her career (15 points, 11 rebounds). She is now 68 points away from moving into second on the Lobo all-tome career scoring list.
  • San Diego State's Jené Morris scored in double-figures for the sixth straight game and the ninth time in 10 conference outings, ending up with 22 points for her fourth career 20-point scoring game.

TCU 73, #22/#21 Wyoming 59
Fort Worth, Texas Wed., Feb. 13, 2008
  • The win over the Cowgirls marks the first season the Horned Frogs have won eight of its first 10 league games during three MWC seasons.
  • TCU won its second game against a top-25 opponent this season and now stands at 2-4 this season against ranked teams. The Lady Frogs downed #20/#23 Oklahoma State on Dec. 18.
  • Wyoming's Dominique Sisk paced the Cowgirls, scoring a season-high 16 points. All four of Wyoming's losses this season have come when the Cowgirls fail to score more than 60 points.
