Mountain West Conference Names Women's Basketball Player of the Week TCU's Helena Sverrisdottir Earns the Award
Feb. 18, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU freshman Helena Sverrisdottir has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Sverrisdottir earns her second consecutive player of the week award for her efforts in leading the Horned Frogs to two wins last week, including an upset over No. 22/21 Wyoming and an overtime victory against New Mexico. Against the Cowgirls, Sverrisdottir pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds, while adding nine points and four assists. She scored a career-high 24 points against New Mexico, including 19 in the second half and overtime, while adding a career-best two blocked shots. She also had two steals and two assists against the Lobos and grabbed nine boards. For the week, the Hafnarfjordur, Iceland, native, averaged 16.5 points on 13-of-27 shooting (.481), 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Sverrisdottir is currently the only freshman among MWC rankings for scoring (22nd), rebounds (11th) and assists (9th). She averages 9.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game and ranks second among the Horned Frogs in rebounds and assists and third in scoring. This marks her second career weekly honor after receiving the co-award last week.
