Women's Basketball Update - March 1

TCU's win over UNLV moved the Horned Frogs into a tie for second place with Wyoming with 11-3 conference records. Air Force defeated BYU for the first time in school history to earn its fourth league victory and tie UNLV for the seventh spot. San Diego State also earned a win, defeating Colorado State to earn its sixth conference win, the school's most in the MWC's nine-year history.

  • Air Force's win over BYU marked its first victory over the Cougars in school history.
  • The Falcons now have four conference wins this season, matching their most league wins in MWC history.
  • The Senior Alecia Steele scored 15 points and 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and 21st of her career. Steele is the Falcons' all-time leading scorer in the Division I era with 1,232 career points.
  • BYU was held to 49 total points, marking the 10th time this season the team has been held to under 50 points, including four straight contests.

  • TCU's win over UNLV marked its 399th all-time victory in the Horned Frogs' women's basketball history.
  • With the win, TCU moved into a tie with Wyoming for second place in the MWC standings. The Horned Frogs have never finished below third place in final league standings.
  • TCU's bench scored a season-high 46 points, compared to UNLV's 18. Freshman Emily Carter led the Horned Frogs off the bench, scoring 12 points for her eighth double-figure game of the season.
  • UNLV's Shamela Hampton led the team in scoring with 13 points, marking her 17th game this season in double-figures and fifth straight.

San Diego State 76, Colorado State 56
Fort Collins, Colo. Sat., March 1, 2008
  • With the victory, San Diego State won in Fort Collins for the first time in eight years and clinched at least a .500 overall record for the first time since the 1996-97 season.
  • SDSU also garnered its sixth conference victory of the year (6-9), its most ever league wins in the nine years of Mountain West Conference play.
  • Colorado State outrebounded San Diego State, 43-27, its 15th opponent this season. Amaka Uzomah grabbed 14 rebounds, her sixth straight contest collecting double-figure boards.
