Mountain West Conference Names Women's Basketball Player of the Week Utah's Kalee Whipple receives the honor
March 3, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah sophomore Kalee Whipple has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Whipple averaged a double-double last week as she helped the Utes to two victories in securing their sixth regular-season and fourth outright championship in school history. Whipple averaged 17.5 points on .448 (13-of-29) shooting and 10.0 rebounds against top-three MWC contenders TCU and #24/#25 Wyoming. She also shot .583 (7-for-12) from three-point range and turned in a 5.0 steals-per-game average. Against TCU, the Hiko, Nev., native scored a game-high 19 points and had 10 rebounds. Whipple tallied 15 of her points from behind the arc where she went 5-for-7 (.714). The five three-pointers tied her career high. Whipple shot 7-for-14 (.500) from the floor. Whipple nearly had a triple-double against Wyoming, scoring 16 points and adding 10 rebounds and six steals. The six steals are a career-high for the forward. She connected on 6-of-15 (.400) shot attempts and was 2-for-5 from behind the arc. For the season, Whipple ranks first in the league for field-goal percentage at .519, fourth in scoring average (14.9), seventh in rebounding (6.9), 10th in steals (1.57) and 12th in assists (2.61). This marks her third weekly honor of the year.
