BYU Winner of 2008 Pack the House Challenge for MWC MWC one of two conferences to have 100 percent participation
March 7, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU has been selected as the 2007-08 NCAA "Pack the House Challenge" winner for the Mountain West Conference, it was announced today. The Cougars set a new women's basketball attendance record in the Marriott Center, drawing 6,206 fans to their game vs. Utah on Jan. 19, 2008. Nearly two-thirds of the entire Division I membership (198 institutions) participated in the effort that attracted more than 592,000 fans. The Mountain West was one of just two conferences (MAAC) to have 100 percent participation in the challenge. Four MWC institutions broke their attendance record from last year. Air Force drew 1,705 fans to Clune Arena, while UNLV welcomed 1,386 to the Cox Pavilion. Wyoming also topped last year's regular season mark with 5,512 fans in the Arena Auditorium. "The Mountain West Conference is extremely proud of our member institution's participation in Pack the House," said Associate Commissioner for Championships, Carrie Wolf. "The marketing staffs at all nine institutions should be commended for their commitment to increasing attendance and promoting women's basketball." "Pack the House" is a first-year national effort in which conferences and institutions compete to build attendance. One winner from each of the 31 conferences and one from a group of independent institutions were named. Selections were based on marketing plan creativity and attendance criteria. The NCAA will award prizes and donate $500 to the nonprofit organization of each winning institution's choice. -mwc-
