Utah's Leilani Mitchell Selected in Second Round of WNBA Draft

MWC Newcomer and Player of the Year picked by Phoenix Mercury

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah point guard Leilani Mitchell was selected in the second round (25th overall) of the WNBA Draft today by the Phoenix Mercury, making her the third Ute and ninth MWC player in league history to be drafted.

The 2007-08 MWC Newcomer and Player of the Year, Mitchell dished out a conference-high 7.5 assists (fourth among Division I players) and averaged 16.8 points per game (71st). She also had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.22, which also led the league and ranked eighth nationally. The senior from Kennewick, Wash. was named a third-team All-American both by the Associated Press and CBSsports.com, and was an honorable mention selection on the WBCA's Division I State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.
