SAN ANTONIO, Texas - California Baptist men's and women's teams both maintained the lead on day three at the 2008 NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships at the Palo Alto Natatorium.
CBU men (382.5 points) have a slim lead over second place Simon Fraser (B.C.) (356) while the Lady Lancers earned 503 points and have a 110-point lead over Simon Fraser. The Clan compiled 393 points after three days of competition.
MEN
Savannah College of Art and Design's (Ga.) men's team captured three individual titles while Simon Fraser took home two and Cal Baptist and Asbury each won a title.
In 200-freestyle relay, Danny Recordon, Allan Cox, Robert Hess and Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky captured the gold for SCAD. Pushkar-Verbits also won 100 butterfly while Thomas Gibson won the 100 breaststroke title for the Bees.
SFU's 400 medley relay team (David Geary, Sean Nugent, Niels Muntzenburger and Andrew Poznikoff) captured gold and Muntzenburger won the 400 IM.
Asbury's Matt Hood captured the 200 freestyle title while CBU's Vicent Andrade took 100 backstroke title.
WOMEN
Simon Fraser women won five titles on Friday while SCAD, Fresno Pacific and Cal Baptist won a title each. The Clan's Vicky Sui, Courtenay Mulhern, Addie Kolybaba and Jessica Verheyden won the 200 freestyle relay, Mulhern captured 400 IM, Sui captured 100 butterfly and Gia Bogetti captured 200 freestyle. Mulhern and Sui teamed up with Emma West-Sadler and Jessica Verheyden to take home 400 medley relay title.
Liz Roberts of SCAD won 100 breaststroke and Cheyen Coffman of Fresno Pacific captured 100 backstroke. CBU's Lindsey Cline took home the 3-meter diving title.
The final day of championships will resume Saturday at 10 a.m. with preliminary action and the finals will start at 6 p.m.
