Region III Weekly Honors Announced for Week of 3/17-3/23
(Sioux City, Iowa - March 25, 2008) - NAIA Region III is proud to announce the following weekly honors in softball and baseball for the week of March 17 to March 23, 2008. The following players will now be in consideration for NAIA National Weekly Honors.
SOFTBALL
Pitcher - Whitney McElrath, Morningside
Morningside pitcher Whitney McElrath is the NAIA Region III Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week. McElrath, a senior from Moville, Iowa, went 3-1 on the week with 28 strikeouts and just eight walks. Her lone loss was to top ranked California Baptist. Her ERA for the week was 2.03. Player- Steph Loeschen, Morningside
Morningside first baseman Steph Loeschen is the NAIA Region III Softball Player-of-the-Week. Loeschen, a senior from Ocheyedan, Iowa, posted a .483 batting average with 13 RBI's as the Mustangs went 7-2. For the week she was 14-29 at the plate with four doubles and a grand slam home run that forced extra inning (eight innings) in a 10-8 win over Wisconsin La-Crosse. She also scored six runs and one stolen base. Morningside entered the week at 11-2.
BASEBALL
Pitcher - Joe Grady, Northwestern
Northwestern pitcher Joe Grady is the NAIA Region III Pitcher-of-the-Week. Grady, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, posted a win and picked up a save as the Red Raiders went 4-1. The right hander struck out ten in a 7-5 extra inning win at Concordia. Grady pitched the complete game (nine innings) against the Bulldogs for the win. He also pitched an inning of relief and posted a save in an 11-10 non-conference win against Morningside. For the week he had an ERA of 1.80. Northwestern is 10-7 and 3-1 in the GPAC.
Player- Tim Jacoby, Midland Lutheran
Midland Lutheran second baseman Tim Jacoby is the NAIA Region III Baseball Player-of-the-Week. Jacoby, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, hit .565 on the week as the Warriors went 7-0 including two conference sweeps (Sioux Falls and Dakota Wesleyan). His slugging percentage was .783 as he went 13-23 at the plate with eight runs scored. For the week he totaled ten RBI's and five doubles. Midland Lutheran is now 11-8 overall and 4-0 in the GPAC.
