Region III Weekly Honors Announced for Week of 4/7-4/13

(Sioux City, Iowa - April 15, 2008) -  NAIA Region III is proud to announce the following weekly honors in softball and baseball for the week of April 7 to April 13, 2008.  The following players will now be in consideration for NAIA National Weekly Honors.
SOFTBALL
Pitcher - Sara Jane Webster, Dickinson State

            Dickinson State pitcher Sara Jane Webster is the NAIA Region III Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week.  Webster, a freshman from Los Angeles, California, repeats this week after posting a 3-0 record with 36 strikeouts and no walks in 19 innings pitched for the Bluehawks.  Her ERA on the week was 0.37 for the 24-2 Bluehawks who are ranked 8th in the NAIA.

 

Player - Janessa Penner, Minot State

            Minot State's shortstop Janessa Penner is the NAIA Region III Softball Player-of-the-Week.  Penner, a sophomore from Morden, Manitoba Canada, repeats this week after hitting .762 with a slugging percentage of 1.333.  Last week's NAIA National Player-of-the-Week is on hitting tear this season as she a hit safely in 19 of 20 games.  She went 16-21 at the plate with eleven runs scored and ten RBI's.  She had four doubles, one triple, and two home runs.  She also swiped eight out of eight steal attempts.   The Beavers are 14-6 on the season and went 5-1 on the week.

BASEBALL
Pitcher - Mihai Burlea, Northwestern

Northwestern pitcher Mihai Burlea is the NAIA Region III Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week.  Burlea, a senior from Botosani, Romania, posted a 1-0 shutout win against Dakota Wesleyan.  In the game he struck out two and walked just one while allowing two hits.  For his career he is now 10-0 in GPAC starts.  Through the end of last week Northwestern was 17-9 on the season.

Player- Miles Johnson, Jamestown
           
Jamestown catcher Miles Johnson is the NAIA Region III Baseball Player-of-the-Week.  Johnson, a junior from Oak Point, Manitoba Canada, hit .500 on the week going 5-10 at the plate with six RBI's.  He scored two runs while stealing two bases.  The Jimmies are 19-6 on the season.
