KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) extended its streak to 25 straight polls with the status of No. 1 as the Warriors earned 519 total points in the fourth regular season 2008 NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 poll, announced today (April 2). In this poll, LCSC posted 15 first-place votes, the most since the preseason poll (Nov. 14) listed it with 22 nods. The Warriors holds a more comfortable edge over this week's No. 2 team, Lubbock Christian (Texas) - a margin of eight overall votes - compared to last week. A mere four points separated the Warriors from last week's No. 2 Lee (Tenn.) in the March 26 poll.
Lubbock Christian, who is 32-1 on the year, has rattled off 25 straight victories. Lee drops one spot this week to No. 3 despite having the most wins (37) in all of NAIA baseball. The Flames had their 34-game winning streak halted last weekend against Shorter (Ga.).
No. 4 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and No. 5 Oklahoma City hold their spots from last week. Leaping into the Top 10 for the first time all year is the University of Cumberlands (Ky.) at No. 8. The Patriots have risen fast as they were not ranked in the first regular season poll (Feb. 27).
Three other teams enjoy the Top 25 for the first time in 2008: No. 16 Northwood (Fla.), No. 22 Park (Mo.) and No. 25 Belhaven (Miss.). Among local Kansas City teams, Park is on a tear winning 11 of its last 12 games heading into this rating period. The Pirates are on top of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) standings and No. 1 in Region IV.
The last time there was a different No. 1 was Oklahoma City in the 2006 Preseason Poll (Nov. 16, 2005).
The fifth regular season poll will be released on Wednesday, April 9.
