April 9, 2008
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Riding a 28 game-winning streak, Lubbock Christian (Texas) University is the new No. 1 in the fifth regular season 2008 NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 poll, announced today (April 9). LBU knocks off Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) from a No. 1 spot that LCSC had become used to. Lewis-Clark had held the No. 1 slot for the last 25 straight polls dating back to the 2006 preseason poll.
The last time there was a different No. 1 other than LCSC was Oklahoma City in the 2006 Preseason Poll (Nov. 16, 2005).
The Chaps of Lubbock Christian are 35-1 on the year and broke a school record for consecutive wins in a season. LCU has an explosive offense posting 10 or more runs in 16 games and averaging 9.7 runs per contest.
Losing two games last week against NCAA Division I Dixie State (Utah) forced Lewis-Clark to drop to No. 2. Lee (Tenn.) follows at No. 3 while Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and Oklahoma City hold strong at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Both APU and OCU have held on to No. 4 and No. 5 in the last four polls.
William Jewell (Mo.) enjoys the Top 25 for the first time in 2008 with a No. 22 ranking. The Cardinals have won 21 of their last 26 games.
The sixth regular season poll will be released on Wednesday, April 16.
