LAMONI, Iowa -- Freshman sensation Mike Malat (Shiloh, Illinois) has broken the single season three point record for the Graceland (Iowa) Yellowjackets previously held by legendary Graceland player Casey Dudek. Malat scored his 88th three point field goal of the season on Saturday (Feb. 16) afternoon in the Jackets 83-66 victory over the Benedictine Ravens surpassing the previous record of 87 held by Dudek.
"Mike has had a great start to his career here at Graceland," coach Ted Quinn stated. "This record is significant because of the type of player Casey Dudek was and the quality of shooters we have had in recent years. Mike has proven he is a great shooter and this is likely one of many good things to come for him and our program."
The Jacket basketball team, led by freshman Mike Malat, currently stands at 10-18 overall and 6-12 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. Graceland plays Lindenwood University tonight (Feb. 18) in a pivotal HAAC matchup as the Jackets try to lock up a post season berth. Malat has led the Jackets all year long in scoring (18.7 ppg), assists (3.75 apg) and steals (1.18 spg).
