SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Simon Fraser (B.C.) captured three top honors on the men's side and four on the women's side on day two of the 2008 NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships at the Palo Alto Natatorium.
MEN
After the preliminaries this morning Simon Fraser's Hans Richard, Michael Clarke, Niels Muntzenburger and David Hibberd closed out the morning session with the 800-yard freestyle relay victory in the finals. Richard and Muntzenburger each won a title in the 500-yar freestyle and 200-yard IM respectively during the afternoon session.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Savanna College of Arts and Design's (Ga.) Allan Cox, Thomas Gibson, Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky and Danny Recordon took first while Recordon also captured 50-yard freestyle.
In the 1-meter diving Branden Toro of Illinois Tech won the gold with 488.45 points.
WOMEN
Simon Fraser women opened the afternoon session with a 200-yard medley relay victory when Addie Kolybaba, Courtenay Mulhern, Vicky Sui and Jessica Verheyden posted a time of 1:46.92. Mulhern also won 200-yard IM and Sui took home the gold in 50-yard freestyle. Mulhern and Sui team up with Gia Bogetti and Suzanne Wuolle and captured the 800-yard freestyle relay to close out the second day competition.
Brooke Turner of Fresno Pacific won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.27.
The championships resume Friday at 10 a.m. with preliminary action and the finals will start at 6 p.m.
