No. 14 Northwood (Fla.) Escapes With a Wild 4-3 Win Over No. 23 Covenant in Overtime

Northwood (Fla.) forward Katya Salguero scored all four goals in Seahawks win

Oct. 17, 2007

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--Katya Salguero scored all four goals, including the game winner with 2:02 remaining in the first overtime, as No. 14 Northwood escaped with a wild 4-3 win over No. 23 Covenant (Ga.) on Tuesday afternoon.

Salguero, the reigning Florida Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week, got the Seahawks on the board with five minutes remaining in the first half. The sophomore took a pass from Antonietta Luigini and slotted it passed Covenant keeper McRae Thompson for a 1-0 halftime lead.

The Seahawks seemed to have the game in hand, as Salguero scored a similar goal seven minutes into the second half, and another just 55 seconds later for a seemingly insurmountable 3-0 lead.

The Lady Scots were not finished, as they pulled one back through Kalie Estrada two minutes after the restart. Jenny Carter closed the gap to 3-2 when she headed home a free kick from Erica Mackie, and the rally was complete when Estrada poked home a ball in a scrum after a corner kick with nine minutes left.

Playing in overtime for the first time this season, the Seahawks created chances, and were rewarded when Lene Bjerkeli's through ball found the feet of Salguero, who raced past the Lady Scots' defense to knock home her 12th goal of the season.

The Seahawks hit the road for games with Thomas University and Shorter College on the 20th and 21st.
